About Me.
As someone with degrees in both graphic design and computer science, I find I have a unique perspective on the world of design and development.
For a creative, I have a disposition for the technical aspects of design and the logic behind my design, and for a developer, I have a disposition to see the creative potential through the often literal world of code. This allows me to bridge the gap between teams and projects, and allow me speak in common language with both sides of the creative and technical spectrum.
My Philosophy.
Simplicity First
"Simplicity is about subtracting the obvious, and adding the meaningful." <John Maeda>
Often I feel as creatives we can try to say too much in too small of a space, and other times we cut too much to chase the 'minimalist' label. I believe that starting with "simple" rather than "minimal" allows us to add the meaningful in a way that is more effective and efficient.
My Philosophy.
Form Follows Function
"Form ever follows function, and this is the law." <Louis Sullivan>
Growing up I was always intrigued with architecture and found the words of many famous architects to be applicable all throughout my work. Louis Sullivan's quote has shaped the way that I approach design and development, and I believe that following this principle has always led me to create a more successful product.
My Philosophy.
User-Centered Design
"Human-centered design is a design philosophy. It means starting with a good understanding of people and the needs that the design is intended to meet." <Don Norman>
Don Norman's user-centered design philosophy is one that I found and used each and everyday in my most recent work with healthcare, an inherently user-centered industry. The more that I worked with the philosophy, the more I understood it's power in any work that I have done and will do.
My Philosophy.
Knowledge is Not Static
"The beginning of knowledge is the discovery of something we do not understand."<Frank Herbert>
As a child the saying, "You learn something new everyday" left a profound impact on me and it has become a cornerstone of my life. I believe that knowledge is not static and that we should always be in the pursuit of the things that we do not understand.
